Sabarimala – A famous pilgrimage site for Lord Ayyappa devotees

Sabarimala Temple, located in the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala, is one of the most significant pilgrimage destinations in India. Dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, the temple attracts millions of devotees annually, especially during the Mandala season (November–January). Pilgrims undertake a strict 41-day vratham (austerity period) before visiting, which includes abstinence from worldly pleasures, wearing black or blue attire, and maintaining celibacy. The trek to the hilltop shrine, through dense forests, is a test of devotion and endurance.

A key aspect of Sabarimala is its unique tradition of barring women aged 10-50 due to the celibate nature of Lord Ayyappa. The temple follows the mantra “Tat Tvam Asi” (Thou Art That), signifying spiritual oneness.
